School of "best practices in herniology, Versiya2.0 - from simple to complex": resume

In March 26-27, 2015 International School of Practical Surgery with the support of the European Medical Center, EMC Medical School and Russian Society of Surgeons held a conference with international participation "Best Practices in herniology. Version 2.0 - From the simple to the complex".

The official opening of the School was made by professor Shabunin, MD, Chief Physician of Botkin’s Hospital, Honored Doctor of Russia, chief surgeon of Moscow. Guests also were welcomed by the chief doctor of the European Medical Center, chief rheumatologist of Moscow, Professor Jiliaev. He said: "Medicine - is knowledge plus technology, and transfer of knowledge is significant, no less than their creation."

Managing Director of the Russian Society of Surgeons Michail Tariverdiev at the opening of the School gave a presentation online-system of continuing medical education for surgeons. Surgeons who attended the conference were automatically registered in the system and got 6 points (credits) in theirs personal profile after the event. 6 more points they could get after online-test.

The conference was held in the format of “live surgery”. During two days of intensive work, participants viewed 10 operations and listened to five reports on hernia repair. In addition, the event was accompanied by an online translation.

According to official statistics, the event was attended by more than 650 surgeons from different regions of Russia, there have been about 500 connections to the online broadcast. The most active were participants from Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Volgograd, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, St. Petersburg, Smolensk, Stavropol, Cherkassy and other cities of Russia - as well as from abroad: in Germany, Israel, Belgium , Switzerland, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Portugal, Slovakia.

For operations and reading reports were invited Russian herniologists and experts from Germany, Italy and Ukraine, who shared their experiences, demonstrating various techniques of hernia repair with the open access and laparoscopic (TAPP and TEP). Audience interaction, moderators, lecturers and surgeons in the operating room were coordinated by the head of the International School of Practical Surgery doctor Bashankaev.

The conference accompanied the exhibition, organized by the sponsors of the event - the companies Covidien, Ethicon, Simbionix. Participants could not only learn about the latest materials and equipment for laparoscopic surgery, but practice skills of laparoscopic suturing on surgical simulators.

According to the participants of the conference, laparoscopic hernia repair topic - one of the most urgent for surgery in Russia. Although TAPP and TEP techniques have been proposed for a long time ago, they still haven’t full implementation in practice of Russian surgeons. The conference was designed to reverse this trend and contribute to the development of laparoscopic hernia repair.
