April 2014: Master course "Management in Radilogy"

Dear colleagues,

Thank you for your participation in the master-course “Management in Radiology”, which took place on April 25-26, 2014. The course hosted more than 150 healthcare workers of various specialties: radiologists, directors and heads of radiology departments, managers and administrators of medical institutions, medical directors and owners of private clinics, distributors of medical IT technologies, and others.

Participants came from various regions of Russia: from the Central part of Russia to the Northern and West Siberian parts.

The course focused on such topics as medical management, marketing, analytics, medical law, and information technologies in radiology.

The main issues in innovative management in radiology and its development were stated by Professor Sergey Morozov. In his presentation Prof. Morozov addressed the issues of department team-work, cooperation, and timely feedback between radiologists and clinicians, all vital for high-quality personalized medicine. He also provided analytical data and a strategy planning scheme and key points that influence the execution of top-management goals and tasks. Most importantly, proved practical solutions were proposed for tackling workflow issues. Special emphasis was placed on modern patient-oriented medicine and radiology in particular.

Professor Valentin Sinitsyn, president of ECR 2014, emphasized the need to create structured research protocols and ways to fulfill the task.

Professor Peter Mildenberger, Chair of the “Management in Radiology” course, and Mr. Tim Highet, Local Manager of GE Crotonville, both leading specialists in the sphere, highlighted aspects of process integration in radiology and efficiency improvement.

Yulia Pavlova, a highly qualified lawyer and an expert in the legal regulation of relations in healthcare systems and medical insurance, kindly acquainted participants with possible legal risks of professional medical care with the detailed analysis of main articles and relevant legislation in the healthcare system.

During the two-day educational course 6 workshops were conducted, which covered practical aspects of medical management and common mistakes in this sphere, informed about basic neuromarketing, introduced IT technologies in radiology including a state-of-the-art voice recognition system in Russian (a feature enabling dictation of medical protocols), and showed how to integrate a network with digital technologies like RIS with HIS and PACS.

Participants were particularly interested in the report and workshop on psychological aspects of business in radiology delivered by Angelina Sham. Angelina spoke about management in medicine and various management styles influencing the efficiency of processes and also introduced the model of ideal management. Relying on this information, course participants could easily identify their own management type and key factors for performance enhancement in their departments.

During the breaks between lectures and workshops participants were actively discussing the new material in a comfortable lounge zone of the Grand Marriott Hotel. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that this innovative master-course aroused genuine interest in all the participants and was a great success among radiologists and top-managers of Russian and European medicine.
