Psychosocial Oncology

We are delighted to inform you that we have started a regular Training on Psycho-Oncology&CL Psychiatry here in Moscow, Russia  under the aegis of IPOS and the Psychiatry Department at the European Medical Center (GEMC).

A large 3-day workshop on Psycho-Oncology was conducted in Moscow, April 2013. The speakers were Jimmie Holland, William Breitbart, David Kissane  and Maggie Watson.

Our educational programs are followed by traditions and international standards of psychooncological approach. Since the beginning of 2013 a great step forward in development of education in psychooncology was made. Under the initiative of the International Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education (IIPME) together with the European Medical Centre (GEMC) 3 international educational programs were conducted during 2013-2014:

  • International Academy of Psycho-Social Oncology (April 2013)
  • Psychiatric Aspects of Palliative Care and pain treatment (November 2013)
  • Psychiatric Aspects in Gynecology and Breast Cancer (June 2014)

The overall purpose and goal of this Training is to provide the bases of liaison psychiatry and psycho-social oncology throughout all phases of illness: the liaison approach, psychosocial aspects of cancer patients at different phases of cancer illness and survivorship, assessment and management of psychiatric syndromes associated with cancer and its treatment, including late effects of cancer treatment, promotion of treatment adherence and the development of the psycho-oncological and CL psychiatry services model.
